Aerogel Insulation | WedGel Blanket Powder Paint - Wedge India

Blanket | Sheet | Pads | Board | Paint | Coatings

WedGel WAG 650 are low density, low thickness, flexible commercial grade Aerogel Blanket having extremely high performance in pipe insulation in both industrial and buildings applications. The WedGel AG06 650 aerogel insulation blankets are made of high quality silica aerogel and of glass fiber needled blanket.

WedGel Aerogel is porous, gel-derived ultralight material in which the liquid component of the gel is replaced by a gas without significant collapse of the gel structure. The result is a solid structure with extremely low thermal conductivity and extremely low density. Wedge is largest oem manufacturer of Aerogel Insulation systems in India made in form of Blanket, Panel, Granules, Monolith, and Board. The SiO2 aerogel composite is made of non-crystal silica gel and substrate, it was dried in supercritical fluid CO2. It can effectively reduce the high brittleness of aerogel and enhance the structure between aerogel and substrate.

What is Aerogel Insulation?

Aerogel is a granular grade insulation materials produced by extracting the liquid component of a gel through supercritical drying. This allows the liquid to be slowly drawn off without causing the solid matrix in the gel to collapse from capillary action, as would happen with conventional evaporation.

ASTM C168 defines an Aerogel as – “A homogenous, low density solid phase material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with a gas. The resulting material has a porous structure with an average pore size below the mean free path of air molecules at standard atmospheric pressure and temperature”.

What are end Uses of Aerogel insulation?

The main applications are in oil & gas, construction, transportation, performance coating, day-lightning, and LVHS. The blanket form is the largest segment of the aerogel market. It was the first form of commercial aerogel for various applications. The blanket material has a clear value proposition, as it is super insulating and two to three times better than particle material in terms of thermal properties. Blanket materials are used for a broad range of applications, such as oil & gas, construction, automotive, and marine and aerospace, as these can be cut and modified as per specific requirements due to their flexible physical structure.

  • Pipeline Insulation

  • Industrial cryogenics thermal barriers

  • Lithium ion batteries insulation in EVs

  • Interior insulation solutions for building retrofit

  • Thin facade insulation for the renovation

  • Building roof Insulation

  • Door Insulation

  • Fire Safety clothing and Apparel

What are key market trends in Aerogel Insulation Industry?

Silica aerogel is one of the most common types of aerogel, and the most extensively used one. Currently, silica aerogel is commercially obtained using silica gel, or by using a modified process.

Upon exposure to an open environment, the silica content in silica aerogel solidifies into the three-dimensional structure and makes up about 3% of the volume. The remaining 97% of the volume is completely composed of air in extremely small nano porous. Hence, due to the presence of only 3% of solid content, conduction through the silica aerogel is extremely low. Silica aerogels also have a high optical transmission of about 99% and a low refractive index.

Silica aerogel has low density, low thermal conductivity, low sound speed, low refractive index, and high transparency, which makes it suitable to be used for super-capacitors, water deionisers, sensors for gas detection, pollution filters, dielectric integrated circuits, absorbents, catalysis, matching layers for acoustical transducers, sound insulation, kinetic energy absorbers, sound insulation, impact protection, nuclear particle detectors, and many more.

The use of silica aerogel is gaining significant attention from the aerospace industry in recent years, due to its exceptional insulation properties and lightweight nature.

In the oil and gas industry, it is widely used in insulation packs for oil and gas subsea pipelines. In the construction industry, its application can be found in architectural panels, glass units, and tensile roofing systems, among other applications.
